Morris D. White VIRGINIA BEACH - Morris Donovan White, 74, of the Kempsville area, died May 21, 2009, in Lake Taylor Transitional Care Hospital. Morris was born in Pensacola, Fla., and was the fourth son of Dewey and Ethel White. He was a master chief ship serviceman and retired after 30 years of service to his country. During his Navy career, he served on many ships of all sizes and his last tour of duty was as assistant commissary store officer at NAS Oceana. After retiring from the military, he then worked for Military Distributors of Virginia for 10 years. During this time, he earned his B.S. degree in business from St. Leo's College. At the time of his death, he was secretary for the Masonic Widow's Son Trust Fund. Morris is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Shirley; daughter, Maria and her husband Terry of Roy, Wash.; son, Tommy and his wife Denise of Virginia Beach; and son, David and his wife Jennie of Chesapeake; and three beautiful granddaughters, Corey, Savannah and Cameron. He is also survived by his brother, Lincoln; sister, Alice; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; a sister, Ruth; and two brothers, George and Grover. Morris was an active member of Woodland Heights Baptist Church, Chesapeake. He was recently serving as one of the deacons and was a faithful member of his Sunday school class. After retiring in 1991, Morris became very active in his Masonic work. In addition to being a Past Master of Kempsville Lodge, he also belonged to many other fraternal organizations. He was PP of Kempsville Chapter No. 173; Past Grand Representative to Arkansas; Past High Priest of Great Bridge Royal Arch Chapter; PRP of Mace Court, Order of The Amaranth; Past Commander of Grice Commandery in Norfolk; Past Grand Tall Cedar of Neptune Forest in Virginia Beach; a member of the Royal Order of Scotland; past president of Cape Henry National Sojourners and a Past Sovereign Master of Allied Masonic Degrees Princess Anne Council. Morris also was a Past Master of the Lodge of Perfection and Past Wise Master of the Rose Croix in the Scottish Rite Valley of Norfolk where he was a life member and recipient of the 33rd degree, Inspector General Honorary. He was also a member of Khedive Shrine Center, Chesapeake, where he was a past president of Khedive Units and Clubs plus past president of the Knights of Mecca; and a member of the Arab Patrol Unit. The funeral will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in Woodland Heights Baptist Church by Dr. Kenneth Barnes with visitation Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. in Woodland Heights Baptist Church. Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, is handling the arrangements. Interment will be in Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery, Suffolk.
